Megan Meier

Dear Parents/Guardians:

I write today to inform and invite you to a very important awareness and educational event with Tina Meier, Founder and Executive Director of the Megan Meier Foundation. She is a nationally acclaimed cybersafety speaker whose daughter took her own life at age 13 after being cyberbullied by an adult neighbor posing as a fictitious boy named “Josh Evans” on MySpace.

We repeatedly hear that one of your greatest fears as a parent is the possibility that your child could be victimized or harmed online. Therefore, we continue to try and provide parents and youth with information to proactively protect and prevent these concerns from becoming reality.

Megan’s story provides students with real, first-hand knowledge of the impact of bullying and cyberbullying for the purpose of building empathetic understanding. The presentation will provide your child with up-to-date information about the potential online and offline dangers.  Additionally, students will be empowered to say “NO” to bullying in our school and to "Be  Megan's Voice... Be the Change." All content will be adjusted for age-appropriateness. The scheduled times for the presentations will be on November 8, 2022, at 9:30 for Grades 3-5, 11:15 for Grades 6-8, and 12:45 for Grades 9-12.  Additionally, Tina will provide a presentation for parents at 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium.

Tina has presented to over 500,000 students, parents, educators, and professionals across the  United States since 2008 and has participated in national anti-bullying campaigns, including the  Presidential Conference on Bullying Prevention at the invitation of The White House and the U.S.  Department of Education. The mission of the Megan Meier Foundation is to impact the nearly 13  million children bullied every year by supporting and inspiring actions to end bullying,  cyberbullying, and suicide. For more information about the Megan Meier Foundation, visit their website at www.meganmeierfoundation.org.

We are genuinely excited about Tina’s visit and anticipate this to be a beneficial experience for students. Tina and our school district highly encourage you to attend this event.  Should you have any questions regarding this program, please do not hesitate to contact our office.

Sincerely,

Doug Kempker, Superintendent                                                             St. Elizabeth R-IV School
